TEDxUGA 2023: Roots

Role: Lead Curator

Centuries have built a powerful network of research and scholarship that is vast and intertwined. The passions and actions that inspire this network are sometimes unseen, unheard, and untamed. But the results are ever-reaching. At the University of Georgia, we plant seeds of research and scholarship every day. And now at TEDxUGA 2023, we will explore how these seeds have taken root and flourished into ideas with the power to change the world.

The 10th annual TEDxUGA event.

TEDxUGA 2023: Roots marked my third year with TEDxUGA, but it was an especially momentous occasion as I took on the role of head curator. Having initially joined the team as a presenter advisor for TEDxUGA 2021: Next Level, and then, working as an assistant curator for TEDxUGA 2022: Wonder, I was thrilled to be entrusted the curatorship of an amazing event held at the University of Georgia.

Behind the Scenes of TEDxUGA

In my capacity as curator, my responsibilities extend beyond event planning. As a teaching assistant for NMIX 4200: New Media & TED, I assist in lecturing on the art of curating a TED Talk, managing classes, and overseeing the curation process with the students – a position I once occupied myself. This multi-faceted role requires me to juggle various tasks, such as liaising with vendors, collaborating with the Steering Committee, and attending to other event management details.

What I enjoy most about my role as TEDxUGA curator is the thought-provoking ideas of the presenters who grace the stage. Each year, I have the privilege of working alongside an outstanding group of individuals, including three students, three faculty and staff, and three alumni, who deliver remarkable talks that inspire, educate, and captivate our audience.
